In the previous blog post, we covered the basics of a funnel chart and the benefits behind using one for your business. In this blog, I will show you can use Looker Studio to create a seamless and effective funnel that will help your business unlock meaningful insights and drive business growth.

Implementing Funnel Visualization in Looker Studio

Currently, Looker Studio doesn’t have any built-in funnel visualization. Hence, you will need to turn to the community visualization to create a funnel chart.

  • Step 1: Go to the visualization library and select explore more. You will find two funnel visualizations – Funnel Chart by Ayima and Metric Funnel by PowerMyAnalytics.

  • Step 2: For this blog, I am going to use Metric Funnel by PowerMyAnalytics. Either choice should work for you. I prefer using Metric Funnel since I like the visualization design.

  • Step 3: We want to visualize how many users are dropping from view_item event to purchase event. This will tell us how many users are dropping off between viewing a product and completing a purchase.

For this, you will need to select four funnel metrics from the settings pane on the right.

Funnel metric 1: items viewed

Funnel metric 2: items added to cart

Funnel metric 3: items checked out

Funnel metric 4: items purchased

From the above funnel, we can deduce that 57% of users have dropped off between viewing a product and completing a purchase.

Now that you know how many users are dropping off right before making a purchase, you can create a well-defined plan to optimize your funnel and improve conversion rates. You can also decrease your drop rates by increasing your users’ engagement with the brand. If you are still unable to pinpoint why your users are dropping out of your funnel, consider segmenting your user base. This can help you better understand the segments that are the most engaged with your brand. You will be able to define a strategy to pull them in better and meet their needs more often.
