The constant changes in Adobe technology have caused a great migration.  First came Dynamic Tag Manager to Tags (formerly Adobe Launch), now we see clients adopting the new Adobe Client Data Layer, Adobe Web SDK, and the new Adobe Experience Data Model. Coming soon and driven by browser privacy changes will be Server-Side Forwarding. There has been a lot of questions and anxiety around all of these changes. To help out, some of our Digital Analytics team members recently hosted a webinar on how awesome we think these new Adobe products are, our recommended steps to get “The New Gold Standard of Implementations” completed.

Please watch and learn from our Director of Digital Analytics, Jean-Paul Behrens, Sr. Digital Analytics Consultant, Geoff Ogrin, and Sr. Analytics Implementation Consultant, Raymond Piccolotti. See the overview of what is covered in the webinar re-cap you can find below!

3:35 DTM to Tags Migration, what we call our first step in the GREAT migration

If you have not migrated to Tags yet, you are probably having some issues seeing as it went to sleep on April 20th. If you need help you can contact us always.

4:26 How did we get here?

From a Data Exposure perspective, how have we evolved? At a high level, we can think about this evolution from an “approach” perspective, what it has been, where we are now, and then from an “Adobe” perspective, what these changes have looked like. Think back to In-Line HTML tags, then moving into the W3C Data Layer, Direct Calls, to today’s current and future state.

6:33 What has changed with Data Collection using Adobe Analytics?

How far have we come? We used to have the s_code.js that unlocked eVars, events and more. Then we had Appmeasurement.js. Where does this leave us today with Data Collection using alloy.js for Adobe Analytics?

7:32 What are the new tools from Adobe to know?

Now that we know how we got here, what are the new tools you need to know? The Adobe Client Data Layer (ACDL) is what happens on your CMS, it exposes your data. Data collection happens in AEP Tags with the Web SDK, which in turn enables your use of Adobe Experience Data Model (XDM) and Server-Side Forwarding.

8:17 Should I move from W3C to ACDL?

There are a lot of cool features in ACDL, it is Asynchronous, resilient to timing issues, this is the direction (we predict) the industry is going and more!

12:36 What is the Adobe Client Data Layer?

Our awesome consultant gives you a walk-through of what this looks like on a web page using code rather than an extension.

18:27 How does Adobe Data Layer work in Tags?

We know that most people are probably using Tags for this, Ray has you covered on what this will look like as well.

21:27 The new Data Collection Stack from Adobe

Have you heard of the AEP Edge Network? Now you have! The whole point of these migrations is to help get data to this network and the new tools and new data collection methodology is a lot cleaner and a little easier to scale.

23:00 What is the new Data Collection and Data Distribution Workflow in Adobe?

Geoff will give you the roadmap for how you can start setting up your schema, create your XDM object and eventually push out your Web SDK and send the entire XDM object as a rule to Tags. He’ll even tell you how you can enable Server-Side Forwarding from these schemas. 🙊

26:40 See the new Data Collection Methodology in Action

See Geoff’s demo on how you can set up these rules and what the end-to-end workflow is using ACDL, Web SDK, XDM, Tags and Server-Side Forwarding. If you aren’t sure how XDM fits into this take a look at our previous webinar with Adobe Sr. Evangelist of Experience Cloud & Platform, Rudi Shumpert. He gave us all the details around this new tool and you can learn more here.

42:00 Can we put these two demos together?

Duh! Analytics Sensei, JP shows an interesting example going to the Google merchandise store and, using Switchboard to switch the GTM embed to Tags, grabbed data from their event driven data layer with the ACDL Tags extension and passed that data to AA and GA with a single Tags property.

47:33 Why is this awesome?

From each standpoint why should you care? Will the Adobe Web SDK actually be faster than my current libraries? See our summary on why we think these migrations are shaping the future of Digital Analytics.

49:47 What are the steps to migrate?

You don’t have to listen to our steps, but we think they work pretty well. You don’t have to take our word for it, but we’re happy to set up a chat and discuss how we can get your company migrated up and running!
