What are Adobe Classifications?

The benefits of Adobe’s Classification process are astounding. Retroactively augment your data with additional attributes to allow for deeper and more complex reporting without using up any additional custom variables. Read more about Adobe Classifications from Adobe’s documentation by clicking here.

When classifying your data, you are establishing a relationship between the variable and the metadata related to that variable. You could create classifications for marketing campaign tracking codes, blog articles, or products alike. The use-cases are limited by your imagination.

Yet setting up a successful Classification process is not as straightforward as one may think.

Adobe Classification Options

Classification Importer

Classification Importer

The Adobe Classification Importer allows you to bulk-import additional data attributes, or dimensions, to Adobe Analytics.

Benefits:

Allows data to be manually augmented with additional attributes or groups for deeper and more complex reporting.

Limitations:

  • Requires ongoing resources to manually uploading data via a browser or FTP Site (can be resource intensive depending on the frequency of uploads)
  • Can take up to 72 hours for classifications to go into affect
Classification Rule Builder

Classification Rule Builder

Rather than maintaining and uploading classifications each time your data set changes, you can create automatic, rule-based classifications and apply them across multiple report suites.

Benefits:

Allows for automated classification / data augmentation if data is structured in parseable pattern.

Limitations:

  • Sub-classifications are not supported
  • Can only export 10 million rows at a time
  • it is very difficult to get to unclassified values
Classification API

Classification API

The classification API allows you to automatically augment Adobe Analytics data attributes, or dimensions with external data sources.

Benefits:

Allows data to automatically be augmented with additional attributes or groups for deeper and more complex reporting.
Allows for more accurate uploads enabling timelier and relevant analysis.

Limitations:

  • Initial setup can be resource intensive

There are good reasons to use the Importer or the Rule Builder, but when it comes to a seamless automated process to upload data from one source into Adobe Analytics there is only Classification APIs. This is the exact process many professional Adobe Tech Partners use in the back-end to integrate their third-party data into Adobe Analytics. But why should only the pros use it?

Softcrylic is changing that. Now you too can enjoy what the professionals have been using this whole time.
